Hon. M.M. Mahamud is the Assistant Minister for Electricity and Renewable Energy since 2008. In this capacity, he assists the Minister for Energy in Energy matters relating to generation, transmission and distribution of electricity and renewable energy. He is the current Member of Parliament for Mandera West constituency.
Prior to joining politics, Hon. Mahamud, a Civil Engineer, was a career civil servant who rose through the ranks to become Permanent Secretary and served in the Ministries of Home Affairs, Regional Development and Roads and Public Works.
He also served as Kenya’s Ambassador to Egypt with accreditation to Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria and Eritrea.
Besides bilateral duties, Mahamud played an active role in the Sudan and Somalia peace, both of which were supported by Kenya.
He is married with five children and speaks five languages. English, Kiswahili, Somali, Oromo and Aramic.
